Florence Sitruk, Harp - "Homecoming: From Bloomington to Berlin and Back"

The USA International Harp Competition is honored to present Florence Sitruk in a benefit concert. Ms. Sitruk will perform in the IU Jacobs School of Music Recital Hall on November 2, 2017 at 8:30 PM. The program includes a special performance of Debussy's Danses sacrée et danse profane with IU's Quartet-in-Residence, Pacifica Quartet.

Suggested Donation: $20/adult, $10/student

The winning composition is Sublimation by Jeremiah Siochi of Arlington, Virginia (USA).

With 114 score submitted by composers from 34 different countries, this was the largest Contest to date.

Harp Dreams wins 3 regional Emmys as well as the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award 

Harp Dreams, the WTIU-produced documentary of the 2007 competition, showcases the best young harpists in the world as they prepare for a high-stakes ten-day event held every three years at the Jacobs School of Music on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.  The documentary is a celebration of contestants from around the world and, ultimately, the competition itself.

Position Available: Executive Assistant

The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) is one of the most prestigious international music competitions in the world. Founded in 1989 by world-renowned harpist and former IU Jacobs School of Music Distinguished Professor Susann McDonald, the USAIHC mission is to elevate exceptional harpists to extraordinary heights through performance, new music, and education.

The USAIHC presented the 10th USA International Harp Competition, June 8-18, 2016 at the IU Jacobs School of Music. While USAIHC prepares for the 11th Competition in 2019, the Competition office presents a biannual Concert Series, takes its educational program – Harp Start – to local schools and organizations, fundraises, and executes administrative projects. The Executive Assistant will be an active part of the USAIHC staff in facilitating ongoing projects of the organization.

Job Description: This position is part-time, 10-12 hours a week at $10/hour. The position will transition to 30 hours a week in 2019 in preparation of the 11th USA International Harp Competition with overtime provided as-needed during the Competition. USAIHC’s Executive Assistant will report to the Executive Director. The position is responsible for: 

  • Harp Start: Assist in facilitation of the education outreach program ‘Harp Start’. Traveling to locations in central and southern Indiana is required (access to a “harp car” is desired)

  • Fundraising: Assist in maintaining an active fundraising schedule – making calls and writing letters to current donors, scheduling meetings with donors and Artistic Director/Executive Director, and run reports on donor database. Assist in seeking and editing grant applications.

  • Social Media/Website: Assist in data transfer to a new website, maintain social media accounts with Harp Start photos and other relevant status updates

  • Administrative:
    o   Pick up, sort, and communicate important mail to Executive Director
    o   Assist in large mailing preparations including promotion of concerts, year end appeal, Competition repertoire announcements, etc.
    o   Prepare checks with QuickBooks
    o   Staff the USAIHC office
    o   Other duties as assigned

  • Concert Series/Competition: Assist in executing the Concert series and 11th USA International Harp Competition

Desired Qualifications:
-  Positive attitude
-  Detail-oriented: Effective organizational and project management skills
-  Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills
-  Strong written and verbal communication skills
-  Ability to work independently and within a team
-  Proficiency with Microsoft Office and IU Box
-  Minimum of 2 years of college education
-  Availability to work through the 2019 11th USA International Harp Competition (Summer 2019)
