Florence Sitruk, Harp - "Homecoming: From Bloomington to Berlin and Back"

The USA International Harp Competition is honored to present Florence Sitruk in a benefit concert. Ms. Sitruk will perform in the IU Jacobs School of Music Recital Hall on November 2, 2017 at 8:30 PM. The program includes a special performance of Debussy's Danses sacrée et danse profane with IU's Quartet-in-Residence, Pacifica Quartet.

Suggested Donation: $20/adult, $10/student

5th Solo Harp Composition Contest Winner Announced!

The winning composition is Sublimation by Jeremiah Siochi of Arlington, Virginia (USA).

With 114 score submitted by composers from 34 different countries, this was the largest Contest to date.

Harp Dreams wins 3 regional Emmys as well as the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award 

Harp Dreams, the WTIU-produced documentary of the 2007 competition, showcases the best young harpists in the world as they prepare for a high-stakes ten-day event held every three years at the Jacobs School of Music on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.  The documentary is a celebration of contestants from around the world and, ultimately, the competition itself.

Susann McDonald is recognized as one of the world’s leading performers and teachers of the harp. She is chairman of Indiana Universitys harp department, the largest in the world, where she holds the title of Distinguished Professor of Music. She serves also as the Artistic Director of the World Harp Congress, Inc. and is the Founder and Artistic Director of the renowned USA International Harp Competition.

Susann McDonald received the Premier Prix de Harpe from the Paris Conservatory in France where she studied with famed pedagogue, Henriette Renié. She has recorded and performed much of the important harp repertoire. She has taught master-classes in many of the leading conservatories in Europe, Asia, South America and in the United States. She was chairman of the harp department at the Juilliard School in New York from 1975-85. She also chaired harp departments at the University of Southern California and the University of Arizona.

She has served on the juries of most of the important international harp competitions in Israel, Japan, Munich, Geneva, Rome, France, Russia and the Netherlands. Her students have consistently won many important national and international competitions, as well as being recognized among today's leading concert harpists and teachers. They also have been the principal harpists with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Orchestre Nationale de France, and many others.

I am proud that the USA International Harp Competition has helped to foster the careers of many of the world's leading harpists, while at the same time encouraging countless others to pursue their dreams of excellence.
