5th Solo Harp Composition Contest Winner Announced!

The winning composition is Sublimation by Jeremiah Siochi of Arlington, Virginia (USA).

With 114 score submitted by composers from 34 different countries, this was the largest Contest to date.

Harp Dreams wins 3 regional Emmys as well as the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award 

Harp Dreams, the WTIU-produced documentary of the 2007 competition, showcases the best young harpists in the world as they prepare for a high-stakes ten-day event held every three years at the Jacobs School of Music on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.  The documentary is a celebration of contestants from around the world and, ultimately, the competition itself.

2019 USAIHC Required Repertoire

11th USA International Harp Competition – 2019

Required Repertoire


All repertoire must be performed from memory, with the exception of
the 6th Composition Contest winning composition in Stage 3.

 The 11th Competition is open to harpists of all nationalities
between the ages of 18 and 32 as of May 1, 2019.

Stage 1

·      J.S. Bach: Any Prelude and Fugue from “The Well-Tempered Clavier”

·      Louis Spohr: Variations sur l’air “Je suis encore dans mon printemps”, Op. 36

·      Jacques de la Presle: Le Jardin Mouillé



Stage 2

·      Nino Rota: Sarabanda e Toccata

·      Gabriel Fauré: Une Châtelaine en sa Tour

·     Choose One:

   o   Ernst Krenek: Sonata for Harp, Op. 150

   o   Germaine Tailleferre: Sonata for Harp

·    Choose One:

   o   Carlos Salzedo: Ballade, Op. 28

   o   Henriette Renié: Ballade Fantastique


Stage 3

·      A free choice program of 40 minutes to include the following:

   o   6th Composition Contest winning composition (TBA, maximum 8 minutes)

   o   Spoken program notes not to exceed five minutes of the 40-minute program. The performer may speak in any language. A printed transcription in English must be provided to the jury.



Stage 4

·      Choose One:

   o   Franz Liszt: Liebesträume No. 3 (any edition)

   o   Mikhail Glinka: The Lark (any edition)

·      Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez
