5th Solo Harp Composition Contest Winner
The Composition Contest for the USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) takes place prior to the triennial performance competition. It was established as a part of the USAIHC’s goal to inspire composers to write new works for the harp and to promote the instrument. With 114 scores submitted by composers from 34 different countries, this was the largest Contest to date.

The USAIHC is pleased to announce the 5th Solo Harp Composition Contest winner. In first place is Sublimation by Jeremiah Siochi of Arlington, Virginia (USA). Mr. Siochi is an American composer and songwriter. His works have been performed by a diverse range of artists at festivals throughout the United States and featured on National Public Radio.
Mr. Siochi’s first place prize includes the $2,000 American Harp Society Prize. Sublimation will be published by Lyon & Healy, Inc. and will be available for purchase on their website, www.harp.com. Sublimation is required repertoire for Stage III of the 10th USA International Harp Competition. The harpist with the best performance of the piece will be awarded the $1,000 Willy Postma Composition Prize. In addition to Sublimation, a selection of other Composition Contest entries will be presented at the Composer’s Forum during the Competition in June on June 12, 2016.
The jury wishes to acknowledge and congratulate the following composers whose works were also in the final round:

- stuck. in .magazine. by Monika Dalach (Lodz, Poland)
- Nightly Monologue II by Karen Keyhani (Tehran, Iran)
- Night by Phil Taylor (Pittsburgh, PA, USA)
- Sons of Hypnos by Bora Uymaz (Istanbul, Turkey).
The international jury for the Composition Contest consisted of: Composer, Hannah Lash (USA), and the following distinguished harpists: Jana Boušková (Czech Republic), Dr. Ruth K. Inglefield – Jury Chair (USA), Karen Lindquist (USA), Sivan Magen (Israel), Şirin Pancaroğlu (Turkey), and Ayako Shinozaki (Japan).
The USA International Harp Competition wishes to congratulate Mr. Siochi and to extend grateful thanks to the jury members and to Sonja Inglefield, Competition Secretary, for taking time out of their busy schedules to make this contest possible.
